Microdermabrasion

Minimally abrasive procedure to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer.

Microdermabrasion is a non-intrusive procedure that uses tiny crystals to exfoliate and remove the superficial layer of dry, dead skin cells. It works best to improve dull skin, brown spots, light scarring, sun damage and age spots. Microdermabrasion helps thicken your collagen to provide a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that's abundant when you're a child which makes skin appear taut and smooth. With age, the collagen production decreases which results in looser, uneven skin. Microdermabrasion is a procedure that can help your skin look younger, healthier, and smoother.

There are a number of conditions microdermabrasion may treat:

  • Acne scars
  • Freckles
  • Hyper pigmentation
  • Skin aging
  • Scars
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Sagging skin
  • Wrinkles

  • Do not use Retin-A or other exfoliating creams 24 to 72 hours (1 to 3 days) prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid sun tanning or tanning creams/sprays for at least a week before treatment
  • You must NOT have recently had laser surgery or used Accutane
  • Candidates who have had a recent chemical peel or other skin procedure, such as collagen injections, should wait two to three weeks before undergoing microdermabrasion.
  • Prospective patients should also refrain from waxing or tanning the skin to be treated for a few weeks prior to microdermabrasion treatment.
  • Wash your face and neck with a non-oily, non-soap based cleanser before each scheduled treatment.

During a microdermabrasion treatment, the clinician directs a stream of tiny ("micro") aluminum oxide crystals through a hand piece that is placed against the skin. These dermabrasion crystals exfoliate the skin, and the mild suction created by the microdermabrasion system removes the skin debris and crystals.
Microdermabrasion helps produce thicker, healthier skin layers; multiple treatments are vital because they encourage the production of a new layer of skin cells that contains higher levels of collagen and elastin. Both of these components are essential for vibrant, healthy skin, and they will further improve your complexion and the overall appearance of your skin. Approximately five to twelve treatments spaced two to three weeks apart are usually necessary to reap full microdermabrasion benefits. Convenient and virtually painless, the microdermabrasion procedure takes only 30 to 60 minutes and is commonly referred to as the “lunch hour facial.”

There is no down time or recovery period following microdermabrasion.
After your treatment, we recommend the use of a moisturizer or facial product to enhance and prolong your result.
Your skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure. Be sure to use sunscreen, especially immediately following a microdermabrasion session.
