Myofascial Release
Help you Return to a Pain Free, Active Lifestyle!
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)
The use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.
Unlike other traditional therapies or conventional medicine, Fine Spine Health and Wellness Center does NOT just focus on the symptoms. It addresses the symptoms at hand but also identifies and rectifies the root cause of the problem. This will be the reason behind the profound and lasting results.
John F. Barnes Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on technique focused on releasing fascial restrictions all over the body. The practitioner provides sustained pressure on the restricted areas in order to eliminate pain and regain motion.
What does Myofascial mean?
Myo refers to the "muscle", fascia to the "connective tissue". Fascia is a structure that connects each cell in the body without interruption. It interlaces muscles, bones organs, veins and nerves. This tissue therefore connects each part of the body with every other part - connects cells together, those into organs (helps them stay in the right place) or muscles (ties them to the bones).
Fascia also participates in the support of our body. Imagine bones as tent poles and fascia as guide wires. The constant pull of the fascia provides stability of our postures and movements. In healthy state, fascia is relaxed and stretchy, without restriction. However different kinds of trauma such as falls, whiplash, surgery, even habitual poor posture, or scarring and inflammation cause tightness in the fascia. This tightness can exert immense tension leading to restriction or pain.
Myofascial Release relieves this tension and possible pressure on the organs and muscles. By working with fascia we address the source of imbalance in the body.
